PMOS

PMOS

If you think PCOS means irregular periods… you’re missing half the story.

PMOS is much more than having irregular periods

  • Some women with PMOS have irregular cycles.
  • Some have acne or unwanted facial hair.
  • Some struggle with weight gain or insulin resistance
  • Some face difficulty in getting pregnant
  • Some just have changes in the pattern of the flow.

PMOS is a hormonal and metabolic condition, and it can look very different from woman to woman.

When we suspect PMOS, there’s no single test that confirms the diagnosis.

Some investigations help us assess the diagnosis—like androgen levels and, when indicated, an ultrasound.

Others help us rule out conditions that can mimic PMOS, such as thyroid disorders, raised prolactin

And some are done to screen for metabolic problems associated with PMOS, like blood sugar/HbA1c or OGTT and lipid profile.

But remember—not every woman needs every test.

PCOS treatment is individualized—based on your symptoms, age, reproductive plans and your own priorities.

Lifestyle changes—especially regular physical activity, a balanced diet and maintaining a healthy weight—form an important part of management.

We May use hormonal treatment to regulate cycles, ovulation induction pills if you’re planning pregnancy and sometimes metformin ( a simple anti-diabetic drug) when there are metabolic concerns.
