KK Ganapathy, the patient was sent here to Sakra World Hospital to consult Dr. Dinesh Kini regarding the TIPS procedure for his liver from Mysore.
After meeting the doctor, he supported us to further dig into the issue rather than directly jumping into the procedure, which was a complicated one.
After a couple of tests and scans, we were with the doctor’s analysis to be able to totally eliminate this entire process (which was apparently otherwise life-threatening). This brought our entire family a sense of relief where we were extremely grateful for Dr. Dinesh Kini for rightfully directing this entire situation.
We were extremely happy with also meeting Dr. Sushma and Dr. Sreekanth regarding the further diagnosis led by Dr. Dinesh Kini.
Thank you Sakra Hospital for helping us and my father to get better and lead a good lifestyle in the future.
Respectfully
Tanisha
Hi,
My father had a blood bleeding(malena) from the past 20 days before meeting Dr Dinesh Kini sir and his team. When we came to Sakra Hospital the hemoglobin had dropped to as low as 4.8 which was scary.
First, they stabilized his hemoglobin by transfusing the blood. Once he was stable, they started conducting the test to find out the bleeding place, finding the source of bleed was really tough as the bleeding was not continuous. After a couple of investigations the source of the bleed was finally found.
One thing which was exceptionally good was Dr Dinesh Kini calls a group of doctors to the conference room discusses the case with them and then takes the appropriate decision. The doctor also explains the problem and the possible solutions to resolve it very clearly with us.
I am thankful to the whole gastro team it was a great job. Special thanks to Dr Dinesh Kini sir and Dr. Vijay Kumar sir.
I was undergoing treatment at Delhi for last 6 months, but my daughter advised me to come to Sakra World Hospital, Bangalore and meet the Gastro team here. 27th Feb I came from Assam and had a discussion with Dr. Dinesh Kini about my condition where he suggested I have to undergo “Sigmoid Colectomy” to determine the problem (bleeding from Rectum). Dr. was very precise with his treatment. There was no blood at that time and he advised me to get hospitalized, as surgery is required. That is when I got also introduced to Dr. Sadiq Sikora & Dr. Kishore GSB. 5th March my surgery was done laproscopically, and the tumor was removed along with Gall-bladder & appendix. All the 3 surgical procedures were performed very well and I was told not to worry. After 2 days I was moved to the ward, where I spent another 4 days. The stay was very comfortable & peaceful. Everyone was very kind & cooperative.
As I am also a Cardiac patient (have a pacemaker implant), So they jointly made a team and all my conditions were kept into consideration before the treatment plan was given to me. Dr.’s from Cardiology dept also visited me time to time to take a check on me. Doctors/surgeons from each dept. who came to attend to me were courteous, cordial & very experienced. I am really thankful to them for their course of treatment and would always be indebted to them especially Dr. Kini, Dr. Sikora, & Dr. Kishore for their kind attention toward me.
Best of Luck Sakra World Hospital, I’ll be coming back again for your advice and help. Thanks a lot.

My father was admitted for Carpal Tunnel with Hernia surgery. Surgery went fine. I am very much happy for the surgery. Thanks to Dr. Satish and his team and thanks to the duty doctors and nurses who are always there to take care of the patients.
This is to thank Dr Dinesh Kini and Dr Kishore for the excellent treatment my father received from both their hands at Sakra World Hospital. He went through an endoscopy which was not only successful but also punctual and hassle-free. He is all hale and healthy and I thank the entire gastroenterology team for this, especially Dr Kini and Sidiq. Thank you!
This was my first surgical operation and stay in the hospital. My mother ( Sushila Devi Sethi) and I have been in the hospital since 5th March and everyone I came in contact with henceforth were very professional and caring. I am really grateful to Dr. Maheshwavappa for introducing us to the hospital. I would also like to thank our consultant Dr. Dinesh Kini and surgeon Dr. Sadiq Sakora for their friendly behaviour with us. They answered all our queries and made sure we weren’t oblivious to any part of the treatment. The nursing staff was extremely polite, caring and helpful. I found the general ward of the hospital very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The staff seemed to be well coordinated. They all treated my mother with utmost respect and care. It is the best place to have an operation if you need one.
The doctors at Sakra World Hospital are always available regardless of their other commitments. I would like to make a special mention of Dr. Dinesh Kini as he guided me throughout the entire treatment process, despite being away for personal reasons. He kept coordinating with us without fail, acknowledged every call, and told us the right course of action with utmost patience and sensitivity. I really would like to thank him for that. Apart from that, the nursing staff is always on its toes helping all the patients round the clock. I appreciate them for their compassion toward us patients.
Thank you, Sakra World Hospital!

It is one of the best hospitals with the best treatment and the doctors are excellent. They make sure that the patients are taken care of. What else would one need to recover? It was an ordeal for my family to run around from one hospital to another spending time, money & energy with no avail till I heard about Sakra. And once we got there, our worries vanished as I got in touch with Dr. Dinesh Kini who is according to me, one of the best Gastroenterologists I have ever met and a wonderful human being. I am indebted to you Dr. Dinesh Kini for your timely advice & the treatment of my father. He is doing well. Wishing you & the hospital all the best for the kind job you are doing. Thank you.

Overview
Recently fifteen cases of cholera have been reported in India in Bengaluru city. There is already a panic across the world over the global outbreak of the novel coronavirus and now water-borne diseases have been reported in Bangalore.
Cholera cases have been reported from the South, East, and West divisions of Bangalore and water supply to these areas have been stopped until the source of infection is found.
What is Cholera?
Cholera is a bacterial disease which spreads through contaminated water and food. It is an extremely severe disease that can cause acute watery diarrhoea with severe dehydration.
What Causes Cholera?
It is caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholera. It produces a toxin in the small intestine that causes the body to secrete enormous amounts of water, leading to diarrhoea and a rapid loss of fluids.
The bacteria can be found in surface or well water, seafood, raw fruits and vegetables, municipal water supplies, ice made from municipal water grains, etc.
What are the Symptoms of Cholera?
Most people infected with Vibrio cholera do not show any symptoms, although the bacteria are present in their faeces for 1-10 days after infection, they can still infect others through contaminated water.
It takes 12 hours to 5 days for a person to develop symptoms after consuming contaminated food or water. Cholera affects both children and adults and can cause death within hours if not treated.
Symptoms of cholera infection include:
Diarrhoea
Nausea and vomiting
Dehydration
Low blood pressure
Muscle cramps
What are the risks associated with cholera?
Everyone is vulnerable to cholera except the infants who get immunity from nursing mothers who have previously had cholera. Still, there are certain risk factors that can cause cholera such as:
Poor sanitary conditions
Reduced stomach acid
Household exposure
Type O blood
Raw or undercooked seafood
How is cholera diagnosed?
A stool sample test is the only way to confirm a diagnosis of cholera. In areas with no laboratory testing, the Crystal ® VC dipstick rapid test is done to confirm the cholera diagnosis. This test helps to decrease the death rates at the start of the cholera outbreaks.
How is cholera treated?
Immediate treatment is necessary for cholera as it can cause death within hours. There is a vaccine for cholera but WHO have specific guidelines for who should be given the vaccine.
Other methods of treatment are:
Rehydration: Oral rehydration salts (ORS) is used to replace the lost fluids and electrolytes. It is available in powdered form and can be made with boiled or bottled water.
Intravenous fluids: People who are severely dehydrated require intravenous fluids to get better.
Antibiotics: Severely dehydrated patients need antibiotics to reduce the duration of diarrhoea and shorten the amount and duration of V. cholerae excretion in their stool.
Zinc supplements: Zinc reduces the duration of diarrhoea and shortens the duration of cholera in children.
How can you Prevent Cholera?
There are a few things you can do to protect yourself and your family from cholera.
Use boiled water, chemically disinfected water or bottled water only for the following purposes:
Drinking
Preparing food
Making your teeth
Washing your face and hands
Washing fruits and vegetables
Washing dishes and utensils
Brushing your teeth
To prevent cholera consume food from hygienic outlets only. Eat well-cooked food and use water only from a clean source. You can disinfect the water by boiling it for 1 minute to 3 minutes at a higher temperature.
Things you should avoid:
Raw food
Unpeeled fruits and vegetables
Raw or undercooked meat or shellfish
Fruits kept exposed for a prolonged period under unhygienic conditions
Be aware of the sources of the food and the consequences of consuming solid food and drink prepared under poor hygienic conditions.
Note: If you develop severe diarrhoea and vomiting then seek medical help immediately. Cholera is highly treatable if treated within a few hours of developing symptoms.
During festivals, it is a common trend to enjoy street food. One can indulge in festive delicacies, but you should also be cautious about health. As, there are many food and water-borne diseases which spread through unhygienic practices. They affect the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) and liver. GIT disorders are predominantly bacterial and liver diseases are commonly due to viruses.
Symptoms of GIT infections:
Mild symptoms are common, which may stop spontaneously. However, severe symptoms are observed in Children and Old people.
