What is IVF?
IVF is In vitro fertilisation method in which an egg is combined with sperm outside the body, in vitro.
In this process, the IVF specialist will retrieve the eggs out of woman ovaries and combine it with
sperm in the laboratory, to aid the sperm fertilize the eggs. Later, one or more fertilized eggs are
transferred into your uterus. If any of these eggs implant in the uterus lining, then women are
pregnant.
Is the egg retrieval process painful?
No. It is a minor surgery which is performed under anaesthesia and you will not feel or remember
anything. This process has no side effects like nausea and vomiting.
Are IVF babies normal?
IVF babies are normal and grow as healthy adults, unlike naturally born babies.
Who should consider IVF treatment?
IVF may be an option if you or your partner have fallopian tube blockage, ovulation disorders,
endometriosis, uterine fibroids, infertility and genetic defect.
What are the risks of IVF?
The risks of IVF are stress, premature delivery and low birth weight, multiple births, miscarriage,
ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, Egg-retrieval problems, birth problems, and Ectopic pregnancy.
