The first ‘meniscal’ (meniscus is a thin fibrous cartilage tissue in the joints ) surgery in Karnataka was performed on a 43-year-old patient from Yemen in the city.
In a recent sports injury case, a private hospital in Bengaluru performed a meniscal transplant on a 43-year-old patient from Yemen. The procedure was conducted using keyhole technique and the patient was discharged after two days of observation in the hospital.

But a meniscus — the tissue between the leg bone and the thigh bone that prevents grinding of bones against each other — neither has blood supply nor nerves connected to it, which makes its transplant relatively easier. Rame Abdul Fattah (43) from Yemen became the first patient in Karnataka to have successfully undergone meniscus transplant here last Tuesday.
