Dr. Maheswarappa BM is one of the most eminent and distinguished Physical Medicine and Neuro Rehabilitation Specialist in India. He is one of the best sport injury specialist and has extensive knowledge, skill, and experience in pain management and rehabilitation of traumatic and non-traumatic conditions of orthopedics, spine and neurological conditions. He joined Manipal Hospital, Bangalore, to set up India’s first department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation of comprehensive in nature. After a decade of successfully establishing the department, now he has moved to Sakra World Hospital, Bangalore.
He did his graduation from Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore. He completed post-graduation course MD in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation from AIIMS, New Delhi and training in sports medicine from Sports Authority of India, New Delhi. Since there was need of surgical training to manage long term medical complications in patients with orthopedic and neurological disorders like spasticity, deformity, contractures, pressure ulcer, tendon transfer, arthrodesis etc., he went to Balaji Institute of Surgery Research and Rehabilitation for Disabled (BIRRD) at Tirupati and got extensive surgical training for two year. His keen interest in disability and challenges of patients with neurological disorders made him to join three years senior residency program in neurological rehabilitation at NIMHANS.
