Thereafter he secured MD (Internal Medicine) seat at the prestigious KEM Hospital and Seth GS Medical College, Mumbai through the all-India Pre-PG entrance where he scored 29 th rank in the first attempt and completed his post-graduation with a Gold Medal in Mumbai University for the year 2000. He was also the best out-going student for his batch at KEM Hospital and was awarded the “Dr. Palekar Prize “. KEM Hospital is among the premier institutes in India and is sought after by the brightest in the medical field. It provides the most comprehensive training in all branches of Internal medicine and also creates solid grounding in academics and research. In 2004 he completed his DM (Cardiology) from J.J. Hospital and Grant Medical College, Mumbai which is one of the largest state-run hospitals in Maharashtra and is also amongst the premier institutes in India. Here he received intensive training in the entire spectrum of Cardiovascular Medicine ranging from Coronary artery disease, Peripheral Vascular Disease, Congenital Heart disease, Lipidology, Heart Failure, Valvular and other structural heart diseases, Hypertension and Arrhythmia management. 1. How can children retain their playfulness post heart surgery?
In children, birth defects in the heart are a hole in heart, valve deformation and misplaced arteries etc. Depending upon the complexity of heart surgery, the cardiologist will advise the exercises to be followed regularly.
For complex conditions such as the blue baby who have undergone staged surgery like Fontan heart surgery, it is recommended to limit physical activity as they are unable to achieve normal oxygen level. So, better to take advice from their doctor.
2. Is heart diseases hereditary?
Indeed. If you have a first-degree male relative less than the age of 55 or first degree female relative less than the age of 65, with heart disease is considered to be a significant premature cognitive disease.
So, It is recommended to follow a healthy lifestyle from an early (Chid, adolescent, adult) and start health check-ups like sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure. Do regular exercise & manage diet to keep your heart health in good condition.
3. What if I don't do regular exercise, will it increase or decrease my stamina?
There is something called Aerobic endurance and muscle strength. Obviously, if you do regular exercise, you are training your cardiovascular system, muscles and lungs to do physical activity with more rigour.
The more you exercise, the more you train yourself to be able to exercise better to manage overall health.
