Dear Doctor, I have heard that you are an expert in craniofacial surgeries. How safe and effective is nose job?
Nose job or Rhinoplasty is a very safe procedure done under General anaesthesia. It requires just one day admission in the hospital and patients can expect to return to full normal activities in a week or so. It is extremely effective in addressing specific deformities of the nose or to alter the appearance of the nose.
The important thing to keep in mind is that the patient should have realistic expectations from the procedure and only then will they be satisfied with the procedure.
What parts of the face can be benefitted from craniofacial surgery?
Craniofacial surgery is a complex type of surgery that deals with the face, eyes, brain and the skull. It is also done with the help of neurosurgeons, orthodontists and the dental department. Head-shaped deformities can be corrected.
Other than that, cleft lip and palate is also under the same surgery list. Finally, our regular problems like open bite, overbite or underbite of their teeth which can also be corrected. Another specid area of use is for sleep apnea and snoring issues.
Any side effects in metabolic surgery?
Metabolic surgery or bariatric surgery is a procedure performed by gastrointestinal surgeons as a remedy for obesity and to reduce morbidity from life threatening diseases like diabetes and hypertension. Lifestyle and diet changes are extremely important considerations before bariatric surgery. Consult our Gastrointestinal surgeons for more information regarding the procedure. Plastic surgeons can address the excess skin and fat collections after a patient has undergone bariatric surgery.
What is the difference between cosmetic surgery and reconstructive surgery?
Both are different and same. Cosmetic surgery is when people want to get a surgery done to enhance their beauty. Reconstructive surgery is to fix the defect they have. Both have principles that can be inter-applied.
How safe is craniofacial or cleft lip surgeries and are there any possible future risks with it?
Cleft lip and Palate surgeries are very important for me personally since many babies do not get the access to surgeries related to this at the right time. Plastic surgery has become safer over the years. Along with that, safe anaesthesias, safe neonatal ICUs, safe paediatric ICUs have made cleft lip and palate surgeries really safe.
For example, the first cleft lip surgery for a patient happens at the age of 3-6 months. At that point of time, evaluating the baby’s health is very important.
In spite of that, opting for surgeries at a very young age is becoming safer thanks to our anaesthetics who have developed the department very well
